Who's who...

Pipe Major Campbell White

Campbell first became (obsessively) interested in piping after his grandfather took him to a Black Watch concert in 1989. Shortly thereafter, Campbell began lessons with Tom Griffin. Tom was pipe major of an 18th-century reenactment band in Lafayette, Indiana known as the 42nd Royal Highlanders. Campbell spent many years with the band, eventually becoming pipe major. He later had the idea to create a 'piping center' in rural North-Western Indiana, and in 1999 set out to form a modern competition pipe band. And with that, the Fountain Trust Pipe Band was born!

Campbell has also played in the Bagad Plougastal in Brittany, France and with the Grade 2 Midlothian Pipe Band from Chicago. In 2010, he competed at the World Pipe Band Championships with the New Westminster Police Pipe Band out of Canada, the Grade 2 pipe band in the SFU organization. He is a member of the Grade 1 City of Washington Pipe Band. He also competes at the Grade 1 solo level and is a phone student of Maureen Conner. He also gives lessons to pipers of all levels.

Campbell is an attorney with the White & White Law Firm in Covington, Indiana.

Pipe Sergeant JP Mellor

In 1979 the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Battalion, The Black Watch
toured the U.S. and visited JP's hometown. That was it, he was
hooked. JP began taking lessons and received a set of pipes for
Christmas.

In 1980, JP attended a summer piping camp with Seamus McNeil. From
1981 through 1983 he served as the Pipe Major of the Highland
Highschool Pipeband. After graduating from highschool, while
attending the U.S. Naval Academy and serving in the U.S. Navy, JP took
a 15 year sabbatical from piping.

In 1998 JP returned to piping. He joined the Fountain Trust Pipeband
in 2001, and currently serves as the Pipe Sargent. JP performs at
numerous functions throughout the Wabash Valley and competes
individually at various Highland Games throught the midwest. JP
excels at piobaireachd, winning the MacCrimmon Quaiche this year at
Glasgow, KY.

When JP is not piping, he teaches Computer Science and Software at Rose Hulman University in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Lead Drummer Jess White

Jess has been exposed to all things Scottish her entire life.  Her Grandmother's family emigrated from Scotland to Australia shortly after World War I, and her Grandmother moved to Indiana after World War II.  Jess also attended Highland High School in Anderson, Indiana, which just happens to have a kilted marching band complete with pipers.  And then, on her first day at Purdue, she met and fell in love with a piper!

Although she doesn't like to admit it, Jess originally started out learning the pipes.  However, when the Band needed drummers in the Summer of 2003, she picked up a pair of sticks to help out... and hasn't put them down since!  In October of 2003 she began learning snare, and in the space of five years she went from stark beginner to competing in Grade 1, the top amateur grade level in solo competition.  Every summer, Jess carries a full schedule of solo contests, and competes around the US and Canada.  Jess enjoys sharing her love of drumming with others, as a teacher for both individuals and bands. She is currently taking instruction from Jon Quigg, lead drummer of the City of Washington Pipe Band, and is a member of the band's midsection.

When she's not drumming, Jess works as an Abstractor with the Title Insurance company Douglass & Nelson, Inc. and runs her own business Ugly But Clean SoapWorks.

I get to drum today!!!
